Origin of Osteopathy

Not so many people know that osteopathy has originated from Cherokee Tribe traditional indigenous
medicine. American medical doctor, Andrew Taylor Still, MD, DO, Founder of osteopathy lived with
Shawnee Tribe at their reservation land over two decades as a medical doctor and during this time he
learned about Cherokee Bodywork and Healing Arts practiced in the reservation land. Dr Still then
separated the mechanical techniques of these healing arts into an organized system of health care called
osteopathy in 1874.
